Doku Rai

(you, dead man, I don't believe in you)
The Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm with Liurai Fo'er and Galaxy

Get set for a collaboration unlike any other. Acclaimed Australian theatre company The Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm join forces with electro rock gods Galaxy and unhinged social saboteurs Liurai Fo'er (King Bin) to present the first ever international production created in Timor-Leste.

Premiering at Darwin Festival like a flaming wild hog ride, Doku Rai is one of the unmissable events this year. Created over two months in an abandoned colonial hotel on a remote island off the coast of Dili, this bold new work explores themes of morality, mortality, fragility and chaos, while at the same time challenging our preconceptions of performers, theatre and storytelling.

Anarchic and anti-institution, The Black Lung Theatre and Whaling Firm thrill audiences with their fierce and vibrant brand of theatrical arson. In Timor they teamed up with Galaxy, a renowned band who rose from the burnt-out remains of the nation at the time of national independence and Liurai Fo'er, an independent performance company that creates contemporary installations and performance art from found items and large scale rubbish.

The result is a brand new theatrical language that combines performance, music, film and installation to create something never experienced anywhere before.
