Baker Boy

Northern Territory

In Arnhem Land they call Baker Boy the ‘fresh new prince’. And it’s certainly been a whirlwind of success for this 21-year-old artist. Now he’s bringing his hip-hop stylings and energetic flair to Darwin Festival. Having performed for years with Djuki Mala, you can expect plenty of dancing in this must-see music event.

Born in Darwin and raised in the remote NT community of Yurrwi, his totem is the Olive Python, his moiety is Dhuwa and his skin is Burralung/Gela boy. Young, strong and proud, Baker Boy raps in Yolngu Matha language representing his Arnhem Land bloodlines. A multi-talented, multi-lingual artist working across rap, dance, acting and graffiti, he hopes to inspire younger generations to embrace their culture and become leaders in their communities.

After infiltrating the triple j crew with an instant full rotation addition and prospering in their appraisal, Baker Boy’s career dropped into sixth gear following last year’s crowd-wowing BIGSOUND set, winning the NT Song of the Year Award and scoring two songs in this year’s Hottest 100. And he’s just got himself three nominations in the upcoming AIR awards.

Baker Boy has the industry talking, the crowds going wild and he’s well on his way to becoming one of this country's greatest hip-hop stars. See him while you have the chance, Darwin!
