Barayuwa Munungurr

The Bones Beneath (Ngaraka Ngoyngura)
Northern Territory

Presented by Salon Indigenous Art Projects in association with Buku-Larrnggay Mulka

Emerging Arnhem Land artist, Barayuwa Munungurr, paints his own Djapu designs, and his mother’s Munyuku clan designs from her ancestral home near Blue Mud Bay. His striking barks and larrakitj (ceremonial poles) are imbued with the visceral qualities of the Arnhem coast – the rocks, the beach, and the ocean.

Munungurr’s work is quickly gaining recognition amongst collectors, fellow artists and curators. This earned him a place in the prestigious Primavera exhibition of young Australian artists’ work at Sydney’s Museum of Contemporary Art in 2014.

Presented by Salon Indigenous Art Projects in a new pop-up space in Darwin’s CBD, this is Barayuwa Munungurr’s third solo exhibition.
