All the Queens Men

Northern Territory / Australia

As the Northern Territory celebrates 40 years of self-governance, what would our citizens say if they got to present their own first speech in Parliament?

Acclaimed performance makers All The Queens Men bring their life-affirming brand of participatory art to Darwin Festival. Together they will collaborate with a cross-section of Darwin’s community to present Congress – a citizens’ assembly for real people to have their say.

Congress connects the personal with the political. In this special edition, eight professional wordsmiths are matched with eight local citizens to collaborate on their own inspiring ‘first speech’. Join us for these public declarations by voices often unheard and celebrate these personal visions for our collective future.

Congress takes the form of a ritualised performance, providing opportunity and audience to those who may not be represented in the current political system. This entertaining and engaging creative action encourages citizens to participate, to agitate, to inspire change and transformation.

Come and listen to your neighbours and help us bid farewell to the 2018 Festival with a glorious celebration of people power at our seat of power.
