Kimberley Echoes

Kimberley Echoes features outstanding Aboriginal artists Stephen Pigram (vocals/guitars) and Mark Atkins (didgeridoo/vocals) with an ensemble of some of Australia’s finest instrumentalists – Stephen Magnusson (guitar), Erkki Veltheim (violin), Joe Talia (percussion), Tristen Parr (cello) and Tos Mahoney (flute) – melding a vibrant and inviting sound world. Created in, and inspired by, the landscape and communities of the Kimberley, this stunning performance takes audiences on a powerful and memorable journey.

Full of celebration and sense of place, this convergence of cultural forces features songs of the Kimberley alongside newly commissioned music in a program that reaches across cultures, time and place.

First started four years ago, Tura New Music’s Kimberley Echoes is constantly developing through collaborations between the artists sharing through music their stories of country, history and passion. For this Darwin Festival show expect new songs, new works and new arrangements in a program that is ever evolving and full of spontaneity and life.
