National Indigenous Music Awards

When the evening star appears it’s time to bring our music, our song and our dance to life.

The National Indigenous Music Awards (NIMAs) celebrate their 14th anniversary with one huge musical party under the stars.

2017 may not yet be over, but already it’s been a massive year for Indigenous music, with many artists revelling in national and international success. A.B. Original being the first Indigenous artists to take out the Australian Music Prize and Isaiah Firebrace representing Australia at the Eurovision Song Contest have been just two of the many highlights. This year’s NIMAs will celebrate the best in contemporary Indigenous music, dance and culture with performances from a range of artists including Emily Wurramara, Apakatjah, Electric Fields, Leah Flanagan, the Red Flag Dancers from Numbulwar and more.

The NIMAs are proud to welcome legendary songwriter Paul Kelly to the stage. One of Australia’s most famous songwriters with a long history of supporting and collaborating with some of the countries leading Indigenous musicians,  Paul will perform solo and also join hip hop crew A.B. Original for a special collaboration.

Bring the family and settle in on a picnic rug for an outstanding evening of Australian culture. Foodies can enjoy a splendid array of cuisines thanks to Darwin’s multicultural community, and music lovers will be delighted to discover a diverse range of amazing Indigenous talent from across genres, clans and cultures.
