Listening to Melbourne trio Telenova’s enigmatic electro-indie-pop is like watching a movie with the picture turned off.
They describe their sound as “cinema for your ears”, and building glorious cinematic worlds, readymade for getting lost in for a minute or four, is what they do best.
Assembled by Chris Walla (Death Cab For Cutie) at an APRA SongHubs writing camp in early 2020, Telenova combines the alluring vocals of multi-disciplined creative Angeline Armstrong, alongside the refined musicality of Edward Quinn (Slum Sociable) and Joshua Moriarty (Miami Horror). With an air of quiet confidence, thanks to their self-directed cinematic aesthetics and trip-hop influenced production, Telenova trade in a sound that’s unequivocally Melbourne yet global in scope. Evoking the elegance and feminine power of Lana Del Ray and Karen O, the sophistication of Massive Attack and Portishead and the effortless energy of Khruangbin and Unknown Mortal Orchestra, there is a sound that’s hard to pin down. But we know it will have you enchanted and hooked in no time.
Their breakthrough debut EP Tranquilize captivated audiences across the globe in and their hit single ‘Bones’ made it onto the iconic triple j Hottest 100 list.
'Enchanting, alluring and instantly stylish stuff.’
'Telenova brings heavyweights from Victoria ’s music and art world together to make hazy, 60s era trip-hop – and it ’s something to get really excited about.’
