Unforgettable Performances You Can’t Miss!
We’ve got an extraordinary lineup of performances set to captivate audiences and who better to guide you through the program than our Artistic Director, Kate Fell? Read on as Kate shares her insights on the must-see shows at this year’s festival.
The theatre is a place where magical moments happen. When the theatre lights dim, you are transported to another world where our hearts and minds expand. This festival is full of live performance at its most thrilling and awe-inspiring best. We’ve partnered with Darwin Entertainment Centre to present some exceptional shows this year – here are just a few of the highlights and why we’ve programmed them for this year’s festival.
Fourteen will break your heart and put it back together again. Fourteen is for anyone who has ever felt a bit different, anyone who is a teenager or remembers being a teenager, and anyone who loves a pumping 90s pop soundtrack. The message is powerful – that the dawn follows the darkest of nights – and that the love of your mum, friends, and S-Club 7 can get you through the hardest year of your life.
Wayfinder is joyous. There is no other word I can think of that better describes this show. With Wayfinder, you will get swept up in the kaleidoscopic colour, the awesome soundtrack, and the gravity-defying dance. If you haven’t seen a dance show for a while, go see this one. You’ll walk out of the theatre with your heart full and all your senses awoken!
When I saw Paradise or the Impermanence of Ice Cream it reminded me of why I fell in love with theatre in the first place – it’s storytelling at its most pure – one actor effortlessly playing multiple characters in a fast-paced story set in the vibrant city of Mumbai. Indian Ink Theatre Company were in Darwin 5 years ago with the much loved Guru of Chai and we are thrilled to have them return.
Little Murmur is created by British dance-theatre company Aakash Odedra Company and is on a national tour coming to Darwin after Sydney Opera House. It’s a stunning show exploring Aakash Odedra’s personal experience of living with dyslexia and how dance became his form of expression. It’s a show for all-ages with dance, incredible projections and a blizzard of paper and confetti.
