Born and raised on Larrakia Country, Ben will return to Darwin to lead the 2027 Festival and guide the organisation into its landmark 50th anniversary in 2029.

With more than 28 years’ experience across the Australian and international performing arts sector, Ben brings an extensive background in artistic direction, festival programming, producing, writing and performance.

His career includes senior leadership and advisory roles with Creative Australia, Theatre Network Australia and Brisbane Powerhouse, alongside international collaborations across North America with organisations including the International Society of Performing Arts and the National Arts Centre Canada.

He has led some of the country’s most significant cultural events, including serving as Co-Festival Creative Director of Sydney WorldPride, and has played a key role in shaping major national arts and cultural initiatives.

Darwin Festival CEO James Gough said Ben’s appointment marks an exciting new chapter for the organisation, describing him as a creative leader with a deep commitment to artistic excellence, audience engagement and community participation.

On his appointment, Ben said returning to Darwin was a “full circle moment”.

“I love Darwin, I love the Territory and I cannot wait to work with the team to keep celebrating our community and everything that makes Darwin unique and extraordinary.”

Ben will take up the role ahead of the 2027 Darwin Festival.
