C.W. Stoneking
Step inside the time warped world of cult bluesman C.W. Stoneking.
‘This is uh, C.W. Stoneking, an Australia artist who sounds like he’s 600 years old. He’s much younger actually, but he’s got a style all his own.’ – Tom Waits, BBC 6 Radio
Born in Katherine in the NT, C.W. Stoneking is an Australian/American singer, musician and recording artist who has lived and toured across Australia, the UK, Europe and the USA. He truly is Australia’s most enigmatic bluesman – with witty banter delivered in a raspy Aussie-Deep South hybrid and a wide spectrum of musical styles and traditions that he combines to create his own unique sound.
With his gravel rich haunting voice and trademark banjo and national steel guitar, C.W. channels the spirit of early 1920s pre-war blues, New Orleans jazz, jug band music, hokum, country, calypso, jump jive, early rock’n’roll, gospel and more – and somehow it all just makes sense. Equal parts grit, humour and dark charm, and with a stage presence that feels out of another era, he delivers songs both hauntingly old and startlingly fresh.
