Presented by Darwin Festival and Deckchair Cinema
We shine a spotlight on two very different Canadian films that show us the world from a First Nations’ and refugee perspective.
While the rest of the world seems further away than ever, film can remind us of how much we have in common. The two films screening this Festival offer a new look at issues that resonate in Australia right now.
Blood Quantum blends bloody horror with socio-political subtext, taking a fresh bite out of the crowded zombie genre in the bargain. The dead are coming back to life outside the isolated Mi’kmaq reserve of Red Crow, except for its Indigenous inhabitants who are strangely immune to the zombie plague. Traylor, the tribal sheriff, must protect his son’s pregnant girlfriend, apocalyptic refugees and reserve riff raff from the hordes of walking white corpses.
Enjoy live music from local artists before the screening.
