YARNUMAMALYA AYANGKIDARRBA-LANGWA

Amamalya Emeba Ayangkidarrba-langwa

Featuring Dr Shellie Morris

More Info

Join Shellie Morris and a choir of Aboriginal women from Groote Eylandt in a special concert celebration of language, music and culture.

The Yarnumamalya Ayangkidarrba-langwa project is an inspiring community-led collaboration between the Groote Eylandt Language Centre and Shellie Morris to create an album entirely in Anindilyakwa. Each song reflects aspects of culture and Eylandt life important to Warnumamalya – from the ways of the old people to the strength and unity gained from the Anindilyakwa language and culture.

Hear these songs brought to life on the INPEX Sunset Stage in the world premiere performance of the album and be part of the drive to maintain this language for future generations.

This project marks the beginning of the UNESCO International Decade of Indigenous languages and ensures that Warnumamalya can proudly celebrate and promote their language and culture within their community and share it more broadly around the country.
