MAUREEN: HARBINGER OF DEATH

By Jonny Hawkins & Nell Ranney

More Info

Spend a night with a grand dame and dilettante of death in a stirring solo performance that celebrates the wisdom of female elders with plenty of humour.

Framed by velvet, Jatz crackers and cigarettes, Maureen invites you into her bohemian living-room for a journey of exquisite storytelling brimming with witty repartee, acerbic life advice, spirited friends now gone and the dauntless potency of limitless imagination.

With minimal costume or props, writer and performer Jonny Hawkins transforms into Maureen, a razor-tongued doyenne with stories to tell, inspired by Hawkins’ friend and self-described “working class glamour queen”. Magnificently flouting many of the rules of drama and narrative Maureen: Harbinger of Death redefines our concepts of older women, honours the bounties of inter-generational relationships and pays tribute to kindness, individuality and dignity.
